Mesh sides on all four sides matter for two reasons. Air moves freely rather than pooling, and you can see the baby from bed without sitting up.
The five height settings let the sleeper line up flush with your mattress, which is what makes a bedside sleeper work. A gap between the sleeper and the adult bed is the thing to avoid.

Age and weight limits differ by mode. The bassinet mode has a much lower limit than the 12 month figure in the product name. Stop using bassinet mode once the baby can push up on hands and knees, roll over, or reaches the weight limit in the manual, whichever comes first. Read the manual for the specific limits.
Place the baby on their back to sleep, on a firm flat surface, with nothing else in the sleeper. No pillows, blankets, bumpers, positioners or soft toys.
Use only the mattress that came with the product. Do not add a second mattress, a topper or extra padding.
If you use the incline position, do not use it for unsupervised sleep unless the manual specifically approves it. Current guidance is that infants sleep flat on their backs.
When used as a bedside sleeper, secure it to the adult bed exactly as the manual specifies, with no gap between the sleeper and the mattress.
Assemble fully per the instructions and check that all locks engage before use.
