The two halves cover different failure modes. The surge side absorbs transients from lightning and utility switching, with thermal protection that safely disables the surge elements if a hit exceeds their limits. The monitor side watches for the slower problems that quietly destroy compressors and ECM motors, and drops the contactor before damage occurs. The fault history tells you what actually happened rather than leaving you guessing.
Model note: this is the base 3VMS with a 40 amp contactor for 208/240 VAC. ICM also makes the 3VMS-60-208 with a 60 amp contactor and the 3VMS-60-480 for 480 VAC. Confirm your service voltage and required contactor rating before ordering.
Installation: three phase line voltage equipment. Installation by a licensed electrician or qualified HVAC/R technician is required.
