The DC motor is the reason to choose this over a cheaper AC fan. It runs quieter, uses noticeably less electricity, and gives you finer speed control across all six settings rather than the three you get on most AC fans.
Reversible operation matters year round. Counterclockwise in summer pushes air down for a cooling breeze. Clockwise in winter pulls air up and pushes trapped warm air back down off the ceiling, which lowers heating costs in rooms with high ceilings.
Solid wood blades, not printed laminate or plastic. Each blade carries its own grain, so no two fans look quite the same. Dark walnut suits farmhouse, transitional, craftsman and mid-century rooms.
Installation
This is a hardwired fixture. It mounts to a ceiling electrical box rated for fan support. A standard lighting box is not rated to carry the weight and vibration of a ceiling fan, and using one is a real hazard.
If you are replacing an existing ceiling fan you already have the right box. If you are replacing a light fixture, the box will need to be swapped for a fan-rated one first.
Turn off power at the breaker before installing. Have an electrician do the work if you are not comfortable with line voltage or working overhead.
