The System 3 design combines the cartridge and the water collecting manifold into one module, with the manifold sitting between the inner and outer pleats. Water is filtered through both the outer fabric surface and the inner core surface, which is where the 400 sq ft of area comes from in a tank this size.
Replace both modules as a set. Running a new module against a worn one puts uneven load on the new one and shortens its life.
Before ordering, read the part numbers molded into your existing cartridges and match them to the numbers above. Sta-Rite used more than one small module across the System 3 range and they are not interchangeable.
Note: the S7M400 uses 7 clamps and nuts. If your filter uses 8, you have an S8M model and this set will not fit.
